French Ochre Provincial Confit Pot
French Ochre Provincial Confit Pot
SKU: SKU: GF-12-2308
This antique confit pot is a beautiful example of French terracotta pottery with a mottled ochre glaze. Confit pots or jars were originally used to preserve cooked meat in its own fat. Only the interiors and the top half of the jars were glazed, and the bottom was wrapped in cloth and buried in the ground up to the glaze line.
These jars have long been used as decorative items, and make a perfect utensil jar, vase for flowers (use an inner water container), or anywhere in the home that needs a unique touch. The elegant form and neutral colors blend seamlessly into almost any interior.
